about the host:

      From the time he was in his teens, DIY's Kitchen Renovations, Weekend Handyman and Home Energy and Savings host Paul Ryan knew he wanted to fix things. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in speech communications, he began his fix-it-up career at the Valleyfair Amusement Park in Shakopee, Minnesota, where he worked for 12 years as a carpenter-inspector. His duties included structural repairs, ride maintenance, plumbing and general troubleshooting. "It was basically like running a small city," he says.
